Standen House was designed by Philip Webb in 1891 in the true spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement. The house was built on the site which had previously been occupied by three farms and was intended to create a feeling of always having been there and of being at one with its environment. It has stunning views across the Medway Valley and Ashdown Forest and is embraced by its own beautiful gardens in which James and Margaret Beale took a keen interest.
The house was built with the finest materials and craft skills available at the time. Some of its interiors still have their original William Morris fabrics and wall papers, and the proportions of the rooms and the detailing of fixtures and fittings (as well as the pianist playing tunes of the era) all play their part in taking you back to a more elegant and relaxed time in history.
We are a family business that works closely with the artists to ensure that our customers receive wonderful pictures at affordable prices.
Original paintings and framed prints are usually only available for collection from the Gallery, although we can deliver in person within a 15 mile radius of the gallery by arrangement.
On this site we have tried to provide as much choice as possible, but we are happy to quote on and supply pictures in bespoke sizes where feasible.
